Deir el-Ballas

Deir el-Ballas
   Modern name for a site in Upper Egypt north of Thebes where the remains of a major royal palace and town have been discovered. The area appears to have been occupied at the end of Dynasty 17 and the beginning of Dynasty 18. It was partially excavated by George Reisnerfrom 1900–1902, and work has more recently been carried out by an expedition from the Boston Museum of Fine Arts since 1980.
